Our visits to Government Urdu Model Primary School, Goripalya made us understand the pathetic sanitation and hygiene scenarios in these learning abodes. There are 600 students who share only 4 washrooms. The same space is used to wash utensils and plates, and due to this unhygienic condition, many kids keep falling sick.
Hence there is a need to segregate washing and sanitation facilities. Further, due to lack of enough washrooms, teenage girls have to share washrooms with boys.
This is an appeal to the esteemed alumni of IIM Bangalore to enable Vikasana to equip the schools with the necessary and much-needed infrastructure. Funds raised through Project Unnati shall be used to create two separate washrooms (for boys and girls), renovating toilets and restructuring, followed by plumbing and piping at Government Urdu Model Primary School, Goripalya. At Government School and College Byatarayanapura, a sink would be built with 6 taps for children to wash their utensils and maintain good hygiene. Moreover, an underground tank would be installed to store water and prevent spillage.
With your unconditional support, we aim to complete the civil works in both the schools by March 31, 2020.
It is expected that the segregation of sanitation facilities in the school, and creating a separate hand washing space, shall aid in better hygiene and sanitation situation thereby impacting health for students positively. This project aims to impact ~1400 students attending both the schools daily.
