THE NEED

THE NEED

The Government Kannada Higher Primary School in Murphy Town (very close to Ulsoor Metro Station) offers learning to 120 students from Standard 1 to 8. These children come from the slums in and around Murphy Town. It has a special section dedicated to specially-abled children. There are 10 staff and support staff members who also attend daily. The school however has a problem. There is a water purifier installed but it has become dysfunctional over time due to no maintenance. As a result, the school cannot provide drinking water to its people through the day. Students and teachers are forced to either carry water from their homes or go without drinking water till they get back home. This is not only inconvenient but is also an extremely unhealthy practice.

ACTION

PLAN OF ACTION

Keeping in mind the strength and infrastructure of the school, we plan to install as commercial 25 LPH 5-Stage Water Purifier. The various filters in this purifier unit include- (i) Sediment Filter (to remove coarse impurities), (ii) Pre-activated carbon filter cum adsorber (to remove harmful organic impurities like pesticides, weedicides, insecticides, chlorine, polyaromatic hydrocarbons), (iii) Carbon block filter cum adsorber (to remove residual chlorine, foul odour and bad taste), (iv) Reverse Osmosis Membrane (main unit to remove all impurities including THMs, heavy metals, salts, residual microbes etc.), (v) Post carbon block (last stage to cleanse and purify water). The system shall be equipped with an IOT enabled remote health monitoring technology. An intelligent algorithm switches off the purifier in case of any critical parts failure or malfunction.

The unit comes with complete maintenance support and a 24-months warranty.

EXPECTED IMPACT

EXPECTED IMPACT

This initiative aims to equip 120 little school-goers and the teaching staff with access to potable and purified drinking water, at a very nominal cost. Since the setup is IOT enabled, the quality of filtered water can be monitored remotely and the installation team shall be alerted appropriately for a servicing request. This would avoid the situation that happened the last time before the machine went dysfunctional. We hope that this project shall set a great example for other Government schools in Bangalore, to emulate.
