THE NEED

THE NEED

A huge parking area near Byappanahalli Metro Station in Bangalore is a space that has been unused for a long time and is usually considered a dump yard. A junction of the metro and railway tracks, it experiences heavy footfall every day. However, the place doesn't have a lot to offer to the people waiting on the platforms and is filled with distractions. With the requisite permissions, Anthill Creations is ready to give the commuters and nearby communities, a peaceful and colorful place to be in the middle of the crowded city.

ACTION

PLAN OF ACTION

Anthill Creations build Public Interactive Learning Environments. Their expertise lies in creating such spaces with used tyres, scrap from billboards, discarded pavers, gravel, used metal frames, benches, and plastic bottles. Their team consists of architects from IIT Kharagpur and requires only a couple of weeks to come up with the design for the interactive space and about 8 weeks for procurement of material and construction. The entire area will be created with the help of volunteers, and the focus is on including as many locals as possible to bring about the community spirit. The main components - tyres, are sourced from a vendor who sells used ones. This project would help them in building a seating area, a meditation shelter, a playground and an open space.

EXPECTED IMPACT

EXPECTED IMPACT

People crossing the Metro Station area or waiting near it will be able to utilize it in a number of ways including relaxing, socializing, refreshment and meditation. The children would be able to enjoy the playground and play in it, allowing them to exercise well. Reusing materials for construction aids the environment and makes us realize how aesthetically beautiful Anthill’s work is. While giving out a strong message on sustainability for reusing and recycling waste and scrap,  the installation also exposes children to spatial design while developing their imaginative and gross physical abilities. Also for the elderly, the disabled, and the disengaged public, constructing enabling environments encourage awareness, discussions and meetups.
