There are 59 creches run by the Indian Council of Child Welfare with the Social Welfare Dept. in Chandigarh, mostly in slums catering to the needs of day care of children from economically backward families. Although these centers do take care of the children, they lack basic facilities and most importantly, access to safe and clean drinking water. Currently, water is being provided at these creches through a municipal connection which is unsafe and not filtered.
This project entails ordering and providing a Tata Swach Smart Water Purifier to each of the 59 creches. A program will be organised by the Indian Council of Child Welfare/SW Deptt to hand these over to the Creche Incharges. The spare bulb will also be given so that the intervention can run for 1 year smoothly after which the Govt will maintain it. Simple and sweet.
All the children coming to creches run by ICCW are from working/labour class. These children will get access to clean and safe drinking water which is a prerequisite for good health and will also help prevent and protects against water-borne diseases. So the community would be healthier and more productive in the long term.
