Simran, a SPARC Associate, working closely with MP, Shri Gaurav Gogoi (Kaliabor constituency) has been involved in developmental activities taking place in the local area. Accompanies by seven farmers and six college students from Khumtai village, she wants to change the variety of seeds that are going to be sown this season. This is being done with a belief that now is the right time to sow better variety of seeds and harvest better crops this Kharif.
Simran took the bunch of interested farmers and students to meet Mr. Ahmed, Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) - Khumtai in order to ask him for his approval and support. He graciously agreed to train the farmers at the institute and monitor the whole process from sowing to harvesting. While the project needs close to INR 1 lac in all, if Simran can raise INR 40,000 in the next few days, she can ensure that the tractors are hired and seeds are bought and sown before they miss the Kharif Season.
The group comes with a belief that introducing high yielding variety of seeds and would bring about an improvement in paddy yield. This would in turn benefit both the end-customer and the farmer. The model, also supported by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, can be replicated going forward.
