Bogampatty, a village near Coimbatore, experiences severe drought every year. Less rainfall results in water scarcity. Women walk long roads without shade to fetch water. This has always been our primary concern and we realized that if not now, then when?
We planted 2000 saplings along the road around the school campus. We cleared shrubs to avoid snakes from entering the children's gardens. We also used broken bottles to surround these saplings to protect them from cattle grazing. We did all this by gathering people to form a small group of doers, called the STARS of Bogampatty. We collected the seeds from a small nursery, used natural fertilizer and drip irrigation. We aim to carry out this project till the end of our lives :)
We received great response from public. Few people appreciated us by saying - "I am astonished at the spirit of your social welfare" and "I can provide you with 6000 liters of water at any time for saplings." Dinamalar Newspaper covered our efforts, conducted a function and shared the invitation with neighbouring schools. In fact the project is now moving to a greater scale. Many new members have joined our group STARS OF BOGAMPATTY. Thanks to DFC, for making us realize anything is possible.
