In our school, students wasted a lot of water in multiple ways like leaving the taps open and using water to play which led to spillage and fighting amongst them. It created a culture of disorder in the school especially during recess time. We observed that there were adequate resources available in school but were not being used efficiently and in orderly manner. Thus, it was an urgent requirement for us to figure out solutions based on the root cause of the problem. 1. Division of space: We will create separate spaces for hand wash, drinking water and the use of washrooms. Currently, it’s a common space and leads to water problems.
2. We have used tapes for demarcation which had to be put again and again. We plan to use paints for the permanent and long term solution in all areas in the school.
3. We plan to expand our idea of division of space within the high school and take our awareness campaign to community centers in the community.
4. The reward system for the best practice will be structured again to keep it consistent and keep students motivated.
5. Timely analysis of water usage in school to know more about the efficiency of the solution and re-strategize accordingly with short term fixes.
6. Distribution and printing of awareness manuals/lesson plans for every class for effective implementation of solution.
Through this project, we aim to create an impact at school level where all kids will be aware of the problem and how they can be a part of the solution.
1. One quantitative measure would be the difference in water usage in school before and after the project was implemented. Also, timely analysis will give us trends about usage at various points for time in school.
2. Another measure of success in qualitative terms would be behavioral change among students and discipline during the peak times in school specially recess.
3. Surveying different stakeholders – Teachers, khalas, HM at timely intervals to record the changes they have seen after the implementation of the solutions.
