Health Awareness on Eyesight

Vision loss among older people is due to clouding of the lens of the eye (cataracts) or to damage to the optic nerve (as occurs in glaucoma) or the retina (as occurs in age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy).
High blood sugar (diabetes) can lead to problems like blurry vision, cataracts, glaucoma, and retinopathy. In fact, diabetes is the primary cause of blindness in adults ages 20 to 74.
There is severe need of people in this area to be aware of this problem and attend regular eye check-ups.
The Project shall be carries out over a period of 1 year, with eye-check ups done every week.
The plan of action is:
Step 1: To identify the target population
Step 2: To motivate the people to attend annual eye examinations. The travel costs of the patient is provided by the organization.
Step 3: Provide prescription eyeglasses to the patients
Since the rural and the handicapped population are very poor, this shall help them treat their eyesight diseases and avoid the chances of eyesight loss.
1. The camp would give comprehensive eye care services in 25 villages surrounding the organization
2. The camp would give eye care facilities for treating 1200 people per year.
3. The camp would perform 500 eye care services per year.
4. The camp would undertake preventive eye care programs.
5. The camp would impart continuous education to the underprivileged.
6. The camp would provide community based rehabilitation services to identify patients who need early treatment to avoid loss of vision
7. The camp would educate and motivate people to understand the importance of early detection of diabetes and loss of eyesight.
Overall, this camp would benefit more than 1500 people over a period of 1 year.
