This solution radically expands access to clean energy by providing community solar to 80 percent of American households that cannot install an array on their roof.
Solstice deploys “community solar,” which enables households to subscribe to a shared solar farm in their neighborhood. Solstice puts more projects on the ground by using technology to tap into the power of organizations and make community solar go viral among customers. They partner with solar developers to install shared solar farms on community organizations (e.g. churches, schools, or workplaces) and offer shares to their members. In addition, they are creating community solar’s first online marketplace and customer engagement software. They foster contagious community by incentivizing local "Solstice Leaders" through their digital platform to earn extra income by enrolling their friends in the program.
90 million households in America are locked out of the solar market because they cannot install solar on their roof. Solstice is the only solar enterprise that offers both community organizing and a digital platform to acquire and manage customers. Participants immediately begin saving 10% on their monthly utility bill, and there is no cost to join. It's the easiest and most affordable solar option imaginable, and the only way for the millions of Americans shut out of the rooftop solar market to switch to solar.
By 2020, Solstice expects to avoid about 285,000 tons of CO2 a year, equivalent to 274 million pounds of coal not burned.
By 2020, Solstice expects to provide a total annual savings of over $12 million to 50,000 households.
