These Portable Rooftop Farming Systems can be used to grow fresh organic vegetables on the exposed rooftops of large buildings by urban unemployed youth (or women from the weaker section of society), which can then be delivered to premium eateries on a bicycle, enforcing the concept of “Zero Carbon Footprint Organic Veg”
Living Greens’ plants/saplings are grown in an extremely light-weight and porous soil-less medium. They use UV-protected 7-layer HDPE containers which are leak-proof and foldable, and have developed their own unique method of organic farming in which instead of bothering to first identify the pest/disease/nutrient-deficiency problem and then apply an organic input for that, the user just has to spray 1 organic foliar spray per day (for 36 weeks in a year) and apply 1 root fertilizer (for 18 weeks in a year). This complete package covers all the pest/disease/nutrient-deficiency problems.
With no access to water for irrigation, farmers around urban centres in India are forced to grow vegetables in mucky waters. The three major components of this model that make it sustainable and unique are: Soil-less medium, a drip irrigation system, and safe food on rooftops. Living Greens provides a green and healthy solution to this problem by introducing a most unique model that produces healthy, hygienic and cheap vegetables that don’t even require soil.
Living Greens helps in cooling buildings, as rooftops are now being used as an organic farm. Their semi-automatic drip irrigation system for growing the same amount of veg as a farmer helps in water-conservation.
Living Greens estimates providing healthy and fresh vegetables to about 6 million households till date through their innovative rooftop farming model, which reduces risk of diseases like E-Coli.
