A large population of women and children in the multiples of a hundred thousand in the developing countries die each year because of complications at birth, most of which are associated with anemia. Early detection can prevent these deaths from happening and to that Biosense realized that there was a need for a tool that could be easily be used in the field which would also have a high compliance. ToucHb is the solution to estimate hemoglobin accurately. ToucHb Is a non- invasive anemia screening device which works by illuminating & taking an image of the exposed conjunctiva of an individual with visible light and quantifying pallor to give a semi-quantitative estimate of hemoglobin. ToucHb is intended for screening purpose in primary health settings and is not to be used for the diagnostic or emergency application.

ToucHb is intended for screening purpose in primary health settings and is not to be used for the diagnostic or emergency application.The condition of anemia without drawing blood can be checked by identifying the presence of pallor in conjunctiva, tongue and nail bed. However, the tongue pallor can be affected by oral hygiene to a great extent. Perfusion, which determines the flow of blood to the extremities, also affects the color in the nail bed. The conjunctiva pallor is a reliable factor to detect anemia. The ToucHb device captures the picture of the conjunctiva and uses the method of reflectance photometry to estimate the hemoglobin content in blood in grams per decilitre.
In developing countries, a vast majority of women and adolescent girls are affected by anemia, early detection of anemia can help to prevent various health risks associated with it.
It is a low-cost and affordable device which can be used by individuals and health care centers for early detection of anemia.
