iBreastExam is a hand-held, mobile connected and radiation-free device operable by community health workers to provide millions of women worldwide an affordable, standardized and painless early detection test for breast lumps at the point-of-care.
iBreastExam, is US FDA cleared and CE marked hand-held, painless and radiation-free mobile-health solution for breast lesions detection using a patented tactile sensor technology. The device can be operated by health professionals (nurses, lab techs, community health-workers) with minimal training to enable early detection in all types of settings. The mobile health solution includes a mobile tablet loaded with a proprietary iBreastExam app and paired with the iBreastExam device via Bluetooth. The app provides real-time results of the scans, stores data locally and also communicates with a cloud server for data storage and analytics. To date, over 75,000+ women have received the benefit of an iBreastExam test in India through private and public health programs with over 100 malignancies eventually diagnosed. The product is actively being used in various Government and NGO led programs. In a one-of-its-kind initiative, the Government of Maharashtra launched a program to screen 2.5 lac women for breast cancer at its state medical colleges.
Breast cancer is the leading type of cancer in India and in women worldwide and the incidence rates are climbing in most developing countries. Less than 10% of women in these geographies have access to an affordable, effective early detection test. As a result, nearly 70% of breast cancers are detected at late stages and with very poor prognosis. In India alone, nearly 1.5 lac women have diagnosed with breast cancer annually and less than 70,000 survive past 5 years. More than 500 million women can benefit from an affordable, safe and effective early detection test. iBreastExam sensors accurately assess & identify tissue elasticity differences between hard & stiff breast tumors versus normal breast tissue. The patented tactile sensor technology using Piezoelectric Sensor Array, invented by the scientists and doctors at Drexel University is a novel, quantitative and low-cost elastic modulus (E) and shear modulus (G) sensor that can measure tissue compression and shear stiffness either by top-down or lateral touching of the skin surface.
It has high Impact, Over 75K women already benefitted with over 100 malignancies diagnosed. Over 190 million Indian women are age eligible for an annual breast health check.
Extremely Affordable Unit Economics, In high volume screening programs, public health providers would pay as little as $1 per women for an iBreastExam test.
