Improving Post Crash Care and Response

Punjab, India | 04/13/2016 to Present

“Preventing Road Traffic injuries from occurring should be the main goal to be pursued, but the reality is that crashes continue to occur. Society therefore has to be prepared to mitigate the consequences of crashes and enhance the quality of life of people who are injured.”

Preparation

Currently, India does not have a centralized body which provides guidelines for training and operation of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Emergency Medical Services are fragmented and not accessible throughout the country. Over the years, many local agencies have come up with free or affordable prehospital emergency services. Disadvantages of these services are that they are not uniform across the country, do not follow a standardized EMS protocol, and have very little or no coordination with the local police. In the present scenario, a patient is taken to the nearest hospital, irrespective of its diagnostic and treatment capabilities. Multiple referrals result in wasting valuable time.
